The Algeria Olympic and Sports Committee (COA), in collaboration with the Algerian School Sports Federation, organised the 26th Olympic Day on 4 and 5 July 2017 in the city of Annaba. The day began on Seraïdi Beach with COA President, Mustapha Berraf, giving the kick off to a beach volley tournament and a sailing display. Present on that occasion were former Olympic champions Nouria Benida Merah, Abderrahmane Hammad, Sid Ali Sief (athletics), Mohamed Allalou (boxing) and a host of dignitaries of the national Olympic and sports movement. Another major feature of the celebration was the night of tributes, and COA paid a glowing tribute to illustrious former athletics greats from the Wilaya of Annaba, namely Khelili Ouchrif Messaouda, Nacène Ghenaï (athletics), Driès (rowing), Kati and Doghmane (basketball), H’maïdia (boxing), Hammoudi (cycling), Abdeslam Zoubir (fencing), Ali Messaoud Malik and Tadjet (football), Akacha, Loukil, Mokhnache, Farfar, Moumène (handball). They were all recognised as worthy ambassadors of Algeria at major international sports events in their time. On 5 July, athletics and gymnastics competitions were organised in a bid to encourage the entire population to “adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles while celebrating the values of excellence, friendship, respect, ethics and fair play.”
The Chairman of the ANOCA Athletes’ Commission, Amadou Dia Ba’a attended the three-day Forum with other Africans, including Enee Udong (ANOCA), Kirsty Coventry and Aya Medani (IOC), Kady Kanouté (WADA) and Nadia Cruz (World Olympians Association).
NOC Tunisia (CNOT) is celebrating its 60th anniversary this November 2017 with one week of intense activities dubbed “sixtieth anniversary week.”
