A strategic meeting was held on the sidelines of the 34th Seminar for Secretaries General of African NOCs in Sal, and brought together ANOCA members and administrators of NOC Cape Verde. The ANOCA task force, led by Intendant General Lassana Palenfo, reviewed various aspects in preparation for the Games, including the programme of events, venues, athletes’ profiles and transportation. Both parties deemed the meeting quite fruitful as it dealt with practical organisational aspects of the continental event.
The Africa Beach Games are already generating real enthusiasm both among athletes and African NOCs. They aim not only at promoting beach sports on the Continent, but above all spurring youths on to practise these sports. For ANOCA, the event will not only showcase African coastal areas, but will also fill a void, since no beach sport events had hitherto existed at continental level.
The foundation stone for the construction of the Olympafrica Centre in Santa Cruz, Cape Verde, was laid on 17 October 2017.
Delegates to the 34th Seminar for Secretaries General of African NOCs in Sal, Cape Verde, also used the opportunity, on 14 October, to tour one of the competition venues of the 2019 Africa Beach Games.
