This year, Burkina Faso celebrated Olympic day 2017 on 1 July 2017. The National Olympic Committee chose the city of Gaoua, located some 300 km from the capital city, Ouagadougou, to host the event.
It attracted hundreds of participants, including the Minister of Women’s Affairs, National Solidarity and the Family, Laure Zongo Hien, members of National Sports Federations and local administrative authorities who thronged the city’s streets to take part in the mass cross country. This was followed by physical exercises supervised by instructors. For some thirty minutes, participants moved to the tune of sweet music.
According to the NOC President, Jean Yaméogo, “the target is sport for all and the objective in decentralising the NOC’s activities was to showcase it and enable youths, women and older persons to move and keep healthy through sport.” Participants received certificates at the end of it all.
The Chairman of the ANOCA Athletes’ Commission, Amadou Dia Ba’a attended the three-day Forum with other Africans, including Enee Udong (ANOCA), Kirsty Coventry and Aya Medani (IOC), Kady Kanouté (WADA) and Nadia Cruz (World Olympians Association).
